Coaching

A coach is someone who can support you to identify what you want from life, provide encouragement and motivation as you take the required action to meet your goals, and hold you to account so that you can more easily keep focused and on track.

We are all used to seeing coaching take place in the sporting and business worlds – in fact most accomplished athletes and entrepreneurs wouldn’t exist without a strong team of coaches, mentors and trainers behind them – and I believe that we all deserve the support we need to become the very best we can be.

Dr. Gail Matthews, a psychology professor at the Dominican University in California, studied the science of goal setting, gathering 267 people from varied backgrounds and splitting them into those who wrote down their goals on a regular basis, and those who did not.

Dr Matthews found that those who were in the habit of writing down their goals and dreams were able to achieve those goals at a significantly higher level than those who did not.  She concluded that you become 42% more likely to achieve your goals and dreams, when you write them down on a regular basis.

The likelihood of realising your goals increases even more when you share them. The American Society of Training and Development (ASTD) found during a study on accountability that you have a 65% chance of achieving a goal if you simply tell someone else about it.  Even better though, if you have a specific ‘accountability appointment’ to review your progress, you will increase your chance of success by up to 95%.  In short, coaching is powerful.
